PianoWorks – a welcome note from
Artistic Director John Metz
Let me tell you about PianoWorks. For some time I had been lamenting that there wasn’t a top-notch piano/ chamber music series in downtown New London. Yes, we have a wonderful symphony orchestra, an opera company, and a myriad of events at the guard theater -- but no place to enjoy the intimacy of chamber music. I was confident that the region could easily supply an audience enthusiastic for such a venture. All Souls Unitarian Universalist Congregation on 19 Jay Street in downtown New London would be the perfect location -- -- with good acoustics, good sightlines, parking, and handicap accessibility. So a board of directors was assembled, and PianoWorks works was formed as a new nonprofit organization to present an annual series of classical music. Each program would involve the piano in some way – -- as a solo instrument or in combination with strings, voice, or winds. As you can see from “Seasons Past” and “Photo Gallery” the first season was a great success -- -- a solo piano recital, two excellent piano-violin-cello trios, and a delightful piano duo. Click on “Coming Season” to see what lies ahead. We will open our season with the world-renowned piano trio Triple Helix on September 20, the amazing young pianist Anna Han on October 11, and in the spring the McLin-Campbell Violin/Piano Duo on March 14, and finally. Soprano Rachel Rosales on April 18.
Please make PianoWorks one of your “favorite places,” and tell your friends about our website. We hope to see you at PianoWorks on September 20! |
